Right after the last award was given away, the champagne-bottles emptied and the last guest carried out, we where off to the next project.
In Denmark we have a tradition for making yearly “don’t blow your head off with fireworks“, usually whenever new-year is closing in. Mediasyd who is an old-timer in making these campaigns, asked us to be in charge of this years production and whenever we get the chance to blow things up … Well, we will always be there for you…
The main goal was to make people (young men in the age 17-25) think about the risk when using fireworks. And after spending some time with a group of trendy teens it became clear, that scaring them with horrifying pictures of blown up hands or imitating their parents telling them to behave, would never work.
So what do you do?
First of all we decided to drop the traditional stuff with a big TV-campaign and went straight for the internet instead. With a well-mixed recipe of:
1 casting agency
1 crane operator
Some super-slow equipment
A monster-truck with big lamps and a generator
1 guy with a lot of fireworks
1 little dog
4 nights with excellent weather
and a bunch of other stuff and people we came out with two movies.
The great thing about a project like this is the moment when everything is up and running and everything just seems to work out as you have planned. Then the feeling is indescribable and sometimes it gives you the chills.
It’s a BIG setup, there’s a lot of people and a lot of things that can go wrong. And it did! … We lost all the material from one nights shooting due to a harddisk-error. Dammit!!! So we had to do it all again. But it was all to the better and the scene came out much stronger than the first one.
So now it’s out there… And all we can do now is sit back and wait for the hitrates to rise… Right now it looks pretty good.
