120 giornate di Sodoma

Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma
This blog is about a movie that I’ve never seen.. and I think I’ll never find the courage to see. Anyway, I have it in my apartment and every time I come across it I can’t help picking it up determined to watch it.. just to put it back where I found it after a short while.
The movie is from 1975 and yet I’ve been told that if you can sit through this movie, there are no movies to strong for you. Maybe that is what catches my curiosity. After all Saló is said to be the most controversial movie ever made!
It is directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini and is based on the book The 120 Days of Sodom by Marquis de Sade which was written in 1785.
In short it is about four powerful men who, as a first step in a sick ritual, decide to marry each other’s daughters. As part of this they, with help from some collaborators, kidnap eighteen young men and women to a palace where they exploit them sexually and sadistically.
In addition they bring four middle-aged prostitutes to tell them arousing stories, while the exploitation takes place.
Because of Saló’s disturbing scenes the movie was banned in many countries and I think it still is in some places today.. and Pasolini was killed just before the release of Saló.
Well.. did this make you curious or repulsed? I’m curios to know…
